My research focuses on early cinema in and about Tibet, examining how individual and state actors produced knowledge about the region through film. Drawing on approaches from history and media studies, I examine the production, circulation, and historical uses of these films in the first half of the twentieth century. It situates cinema in and about Tibet within broader developments in world history and in transnational histories of cinema and global media circulation.
