My research focuses on Russia and Central Asia, with a particular interest in the history of travel and exploration, historical geography, and human-geographical relations. By situating journeys and travel accounts produced by travelers and explorers within the broader contexts of global history, I explore how knowledge is produced through interactions between people and their environments, how particular places become connected to the wider world, and how these connections shape understandings of space, time, and our surrounding world. I am also interested in digital and spatial methods and their potential to offer new ways of interpreting historical experiences of time and space.
