I am a first-year graduate student interested in transnational business and interaction in the 19th century specifically in the context of the “Age of Revolutions” in Europe. At the moment I am focusing on the border between Belgium (established in 1830, previously the Austrian Netherlands) and Northern France to further investigate how modernization and industrialization both contradicted and complemented identity, social status, and lived experience in the region.
